Principle 7 and Conclusion

Principle 7~ The Power of love and forgiveness
Worship Song ~ Natalie Grant ~ The Greatness of our God

I love this song and think of the greatness of his love and forgiveness for me.

pg. 243 "Love kisses the boo-boo before scolding about running in the house. Love encourages creativity instead of worrying about the possible mess. Love carefully disciplines and always forgives. Love doesn't sweat the small stuff. Love smiles and hugs. Love takes the time to look you in the eyes and listen to your side of the story."

pg. 249 "A mother's love is like the moonlight. The love that pours from her is actually a reflection of the incredible love of our heavenly Father. Do you relish and enjoy his love? Spend some time each day reading his love letter to you-The Bible. As you ponder God's incredible, everlasting love for you, you will begin to shine with his love in your home."

Affirmative Training~ Proverbs 3:11-12 "My son, do not despise the Lord's discipline and do not resent his rebuke, because the Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in"

Hebrews 12:11 "No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it."

Proverbs 22:15 "Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline will drive it far from him."

The poem on page 258 and 259 could have been written by me to my mom. I was crying when I finished it! I love my mom and I pray that I will look to God for the strength to help me care this much for my children.

Conclusion~
Philippians 3:12-14 "I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus"

Thank you so much for following along with us in the book. I am not sure of your thoughts but I plan to revisit the last pages of each chapter and make sure to apply these principles to help me become a more positive mother! I love you all!

Here are some pictures of my projects I had done in this book:)

Principle 5 and 6

Principle #5 ~ The Power of Your Example

Heaven Help Us
Worship Song ~ Casting Crowns Slow Fade

Romans 7:18-25

John 15:5 "I am the vine and you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit: apart from me he can do nothing."

Nobody's Perfect pg. 194
"Feed my sheep" John 21:17-18
This poem speaks volumes to me!
"I'd rather see a sermon, than hear on any day.
I'd rather one would walk with me than merely tell me the way.
The eye's a better pupil, more willing than the ear,
Fine council is confusing, but example's always clear.
And the best of all people are the ones that live their creeds,
For to see good in action is what everyone needs.
continued on pg. 196

pg. 203 Has some real fun ideas to apply traditions throughout the different holidays!
pg. 210 Has some wonderful travel ideas~ What are some of yours? I love this goodie bag idea and I am going to use it next month for our beach trip! No more fighting over treats and toys:)

Principle 6~
We are all changes in the making.

pg. 219 "But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation."

I have to always ask myself am I looking to my foundation for my strength or just my self?

pg.231
My mommy friends and I were just talking about good books to look for with our preschoolers and here it is. It is fun to have a mission for a book at a library trip and then theme your weeks activities around this book. Here is a good link to some reading programs as well.

http://www.southernsavers.com/2011/06/free-kids-summer-reading-programs/

These two principles are filled with fun applications. I feel like I need to print out these ideas and use them to set goals at the start of the year. The fun reading ideas and inspirations to be a better mom and care what is going on in the circus I call my home is very inspiring.

Principle 4~ Strong Relationships

MEET UP ~
Morrison YMCA in front of Smoothie King at 10:30
Had a great time of fellowship last time and look forward to seeing you all again~

Worship Song ~ How He Loves Us
This song was awesome for me to see that if I submit to the love that God has for me I can then submit to my husband and his love that he has for me.

pg. 159 "The Five Languages of Love" Chris and I did this when we got married and I would love to do this again to see if anything has changed. It is so important for me to serve his love language and accept it when he expresses his love for me in his way.

pg. 162 "Are you communicating respect in your message and your tone of voice." I am so bad about flying off the handle and not thinking before I speak. Some days I pray about everything before I talk to Chris about anything. This prevents displacement of anger on him and has improved our relationship.

pg. 164 We love to watch movies. I think that it is fun to get fun treat candy to go along with the movie and it shows Chris that I thought about him that day:)

This was a good reminder to pick a book or devotion to do with my husband. We had been doing one but it did get put to the side at the beginning of the summer and I put it back on my bedside today.

pg. 167 Choose~ This is another good application to make a memory list of all the things you love about your husband. Once you start having that mental pity party you can remember the list.

Do~ I did take a picture of where Chris and I very first started dating and sent it to his phone and asked him to guess where it was. It did put a smile on his face and he sent me a little love line back. So easy and meant so much~

I enjoyed this chapter just as much as the last. I feel that at the end I am going to go back through all the last pages and reread the scripture and make sure that I am doing the DO section. I did the life map that she talked about last week. I pinned it up in my closet. Really made me see all the blessings that God has given me!

Talk to you Wednesday or next week here on the blog~

Principle 3 ~The Power of a Good Attitude

Worship Video ~ Healing Hands of God

From Imogene~
Chapter 9~ pg. 125 "our contentment is independent of what we have or who surrounds us."
This one is a hard one to swallow sometimes. Where is my contentment? It is so easy for us to look to others and things here on earth rather than The Maker. I have to admit I read this chapter the week before on the perfect day, I was one step away from my own pity party in my bathroom!

Chapter 10~ pg.139
I can not wait to make these posters with my family. I think this will be a fun weekend activity.

Chatter 11~ pg.146 "In this world you will have trouble." I loved the story that came after my favorite verse about the teachers. I have two young boys and it was awesome to see this mom discussing this situation.
Psalm 37:23 ~ "for the Lord upholds him with his hand" The Do in this last chapter is to make a Life Map. It is going to be fun to track the progress of all these activities on these blogs. When I get time I would love to post mine for you all!

Principle #2 ~ Power of Prayer

Worship Song ~ God Speaking

Thanks to all the moms that took the time to meet in groups to go over the introduction and principle #1. Was so awesome to have fellowship in the middle of school endings and all the activities that brings. Here we are in the second principle and what a powerful one it is.

Chapter 6 ~ pg. 80
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." Philippians 4:6

Imogene~ What a wonderful structure for prayer. Each week we will face the little trials of being a mother. God is telling me to calm down, pray, be thankful, and ask. He knows the greater purpose for the trail and I am so focused on the moment I need to step back and look at this verse daily.

pg. 88 offers other great verses that can help us structure our daily prayers

Chapter 7 ~ pg 105 CHOOSE
Imogene~ I was reading another book and the author had you write a "I remember List". This is a list of prayers that God has answered in the past. This is a great application in combining with chapter 6. If I go back to Philippians 4:6, again he is telling me to calm down, pray for his peace, remember all the other answered prayers, and ask for this prayer.

Chapter 8 ~ pg 108
"praying moms saw the power of God to work through their prayers"
This is a great chapter on prayer and how we need to be accountable to others in our prayer life. Since we are all busy moms it helps to find some friends and when you need their prayers ask. This allows them to come along side you in this trial and enjoy in the answering of your prayers in the deliverance of the trial. I also have started asking God to lead me to pray for different moms that may need prayer. He often brings them to mind. Then I will pray, reach out to that mom, and let her know that I was in prayer for her. You would be amazed at how many times I hear, "You have no idea how much I needed prayer that day." We need to lean on our father and pray to him daily so we can lean on him through this journey of being a mom.

pg. 117
"So I think I know the secret
Learned from many a troubled way,
You must seek God in the morning
If you want him through the day."

Comment Question~ What are you willing to give up in order to have time in prayer?

Imogene~ I would have to confess that I need to give up my junk tv shows I watch at nap time and spend that time praying.

Talk to you next week!

Introduction and Principle #1

Here we go!
Worship Song~ HOLD ME

Chapter One
pg. 10 "You are absolutely essential in your home and in the lives of your kids. Your job has more than monetary value: it has eternal worth!"
Imogene~
Wow! When I was going to school I wanted a job just like this! But my view was alot different. I would have the nice car, home, husband, nanny, and big office. I would mean alot to alot of people. Well boy has all this changed. I got to that career and realized that it really did not matter. Guess what? The bank will open with or without Imogene Noe. Little did I know that the job that would have eternal worth would be filled with one of daily self sacrifice. Not to mention all the dirty diapers and daily beat downs of being a mom. But boy is this when God lifts me up, HOLDS ME, and shows me that he can do all things through me that really matter to him.

Share the Do on pg. 16 (please comment on one thing that is on your card)
Imogene ~ "To TRUST in Christ to do all things through me." I can not tell you how many times during one day I close my eyes and think, "God you have something for me here, right here, and I am not seeing it. Please show me so I can get through this."

Chapter Two
pg. 23 "..build on your strengths"
Imogene~ I took the spiritual gift test that you can find here. This helped me to realize that I am not all things to all people, BUT I can be something to a few people and be good at it.
http://www.ebcrochester.org/misc/php/LifeWaySpiritualGiftsSurvey.php

pg. 29 "God's Holy Spirit is our power source.."
Imogene~ I need to spend time with him daily to really see him and see his provisions in my life. This is when I feel my real purpose.

Chapter Three
pg. 42 "by praising our Holy Father"
Imogene~ Just last year I made a worship song part of my quiet time and I really feel that this is my thanksgiving to him daily. When I am having a hard time and facing doubt I go to him in worship and this is when I hear him and his verses that he has for me for this exact situation. But how can I hear if I do not submit to him?

I did write down the accolades for my family. I made a point to say the first one to my husband. He looked at me and said, "What?" Wow, this shows you how much work I have to do to let my husband know what I love about him. He is so stressed at work and when he comes home we are his peaceful place. I guess I need to think of this more and make an effort to make him feel loved, like Christ loves me.

Chapter Four
My sister plays this game with her family where they list out blessings that people are to their lives. This makes the kids focus on the good in the family and not the bad. After reading this chapter and having two boys under four, I will be playing this game tonight:)

pg. 72 Story about Karol ~
I realize that my husband desires for me to happy. He goes to work to provide for our family and shows us love in his love language. I need to accept, appreciate, and realize that this is how God made him. A couple of months ago I was at a Mentor Night and we realized that if we go to our maker with all our problems before our hubbies come home we are less likely to do the emotional dump on our husbands. It really has made a difference in my personal life. We focus on the goodness in the day and then address the couple of items that need to be discussed.

I am so glad that I made the commitment to finish these chapters. I know that it is a struggle for us all. But awesome to see three take aways from these chapters that will daily help me stay on the positive side of being a mom.

Serving Him,
Imogene

From Melissa~
After reading the introduction through Principle #1, I am so excited to see what God has planned for us! God is already speaking to my heart through His Word and this book. I truly want to not only hear what God has to say to me, but I want to do what He has called me to do.
In chapter 1 (p.11), I was reminded of just who my employer is. I am quick to quote Colossians 3:17 to my kids, but this was all up in my face about me...Who am I working for? I had forgotten this in the day to day struggles of caring for my family.
On page 22, she talks about "neither circumstances nor people are ever perfect". The bottom line is that I am a perfectionist, but "is my vision realistic or just a glorified picture of what we think we ought to be?" What are my expectations for myself, my husband and my children? To be perfectly honest, I had to stop and repent. (p.27) "Are we taking time to love and enjoy the people God has placed in our care?"...or am I too busy trying to be perfect?(p. 29) Am I allowing the Holy Spirit to be my power source or am I relying on my own self? I tend to try to be my own power source and being the human that I am I usually blow a fuse or burn out!
Priniciple #1: The thing that really spoke to me here is what she has to say about self worth.(p. 38) "Children need to establish in their hearts and minds that their worth is not wrapped up in what they do or what anyone else thinks...rather, it is based on who they are in Christ." This is my prayer for my children...and for myself. I really struggle with the fact that I need to be doing something to have self worth.
Finally (p. 48), Colossians 3:12-15(NIV) says this..."clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience...and over all of these virtues put on love which binds them all together. Key words "clothe yourselves" and "put on". It is a deliberate, intentional action. These things will not just happen because we wish it were so.
I am looking forward to what is in store for us as we seek God's will for us as a Mom!

Power of a Positive Mom

I am so excited and blessed at the same time to see all of these moms wanting to do a study in the summer. It is so hard with the kids home and trying to schedule camps and outings to remember that we need to focus on our relationship with God first and he will take care of the daily details that can drive me crazy! This summer we are going to format these studies as book clubs. We want you to find the time that you have to focus on this book at your own pace. I will say that the more committed you are to anything the more of a daily impact you will have. We are going to post the introduction and #1 Principle this Wednesday. I can not get over how fast this past week and a half have gone by. Please refer to the posting schedule on blog for a guide to read this book. We have to have a goal to meet it, so set yours now. Make realistic goals for these chapters through the summer. You will have all the posts on this blog that will stay here. I promise that if you comment I will see the comment all summer. I can not wait to see how "Positive" God wants me to be all summer!

Beth Moore ~ Daniel Week 11

Wow! I can not get over this is our last week! I am already excited about what Beth Moore study I will do next! This week is wrapping everything up so nicely.
pg. 224
"His works will not save him: but his works will reveal that he is redeemed."
This was a wonderful statement that hit home for me. What works am I doing in my life that reveal that I am redeemed? Does God have more for me than I see? Going through this study makes me see the REAL Jesus in our world today. Babylon has been a great parallel with the world that we live in today!
This week in class we all answered the lion question on the bottom of page 224.
My answer ~ Babylon is the world that we live in today! For someone who is not saved, they, as myself, could view the Bible as being old and non applicable. This is, if they have not read it. Boy, this study helped me did in to really see how applicable the entire Bible is. Also lets us know what is to come!

I have loved taking this journey with you all! Seeing you all in the halls and connecting, celebrating, and discussing what we learned! I pray that you can join together again for another adventure soon~

Beth Moore ~ Daniel Week 10

pg. 203
"Fear God and nothing else. You will experience things other people only read about." Through this study I have found God really trimming my trunk back down to the stump. I am seeing that in order to see God work in my life I need to stop focusing on my work in my life. I have often heard that once we come to the end of ourselves is when God picks us up. It is humbling to think that I need to get rid of all the earthly things that I have placed so much value in to see what God has for me in my life here.

top of page 204
This quote from CS about pride is so right on! I never thought of this, but when I do I realize that the root of the sin in my life is my pride. This for sure can block what God is trying to do in my life, because I am so focused on myself and what he is doing through me.

Here is the worship Video for this week and address Pride ~

page 210
I really have to rest my faith on what he has planned for my life. This week I found out a dear friend of mine that is a believer, is dying from cancer. She has a 4 and a 6 year old and is my age. It really makes me focus on what is really important in my life. God, Chris, then family. He will guard my heart and the plans that he has for my life, but this was a real wake up call that our days are numbered and we have to live for his kingdom and not Satan's. There is no gray area, you are serving one or the other. That is a hard question to ask when we are in the gray areas.

pg 181
She speaks on dual referencing the scripture. This has been a great help to me to listen closely to these stories in the bible and see the applications that God has for me. She is right we are so blessed to have the Bible to give us step by step instructions in how we need to live our lives. But why is it I only pick it up in times of trouble or while I am doing a Bible study?

pg.187
"Stay in the word so you can recognize His voice, then listen closely to what he is saying deep within you."

Being a stay at home mom with two boys sometimes it is hard to focus on self. I think that this has been a great week for me to realize that he does want me to focus on myself and what he is doing deep within me. This week when she focused deeply on prayer I had to ask myself, "How have I been praying for myself?" My focus is on people and circumstance and not to spirit within me. I love these studies on characters in the bible and I see how God uses them in a small way for his bigger purpose. This is my prayer for my life today. I want God to use me even if it is in a small way for his big purpose. I kept hearing about Psalm 131 ministry so I took a minute to look them up one day.

http://www.proverbs31.org/everydaylife/marriage.php

The link above is the everyday section where you can select a topic such as marriage or parenting. These are two areas that I would like to focus more on in my life. I would like to create a weekly prayer list for these areas. I need help. On the right hand side of all the topics there are resources to help you. In books past that I have read they point you right to the scripture on these topics. I also find it helpful to find someone else to do these along side me to help my accountability to get them done. I hope to move forward in this way for much longer.

Beth Moore ~ Daniel Week 8

In session 8: Foreshadowing the Little Horn, Beth shows how the prophecy in Daniel chapter 8 includes both what is now past history and Israel's future experiences under Antichrist. The passage points to an Antichrist who will become very strong but not by his own power, take his stand against the Prince of princes, and will be destroyed, but not by human power (Daniel 8:23-25) Click here to purchase and download the session video for week 8: http://www.lifeway.com/product/005035488/ pg. 168 "Remember, we are viewing Daniel 8 as God's way of telling us about the former to help us better picture the latter. In session 8, we referred to this teaching method as "dual referencing". This statement really sparked a question to myself, "Dual referencing is how we read the bible and apply God's words to our lives, right?" Beth Moore did a great job of showing us how this application of the bible applies to the new and the old testament. Then I start to realize that this is how I mentally apply God's directions for my life in my daily activities. When I face trials I need to reference the bible to see the applications that he has for me in his word. This week also helped me see that what his will is in the end times. How we are suppose to encourage one another and lift each other up in trials. This really hit home for me and that I need to increase my commitment to prayer for my sisters. Music Video for worship~ Life is Sweeter ~ on the other side. I thought this was a good one since our study is showing us what is going to happen in the end:)

Beth Moore Daniel Study - Week 7

Have you ever had a craving for something you knew you shouldn't have? Well, let me be the first to raise my hand! Right before my "special time" each month I crave chocolate and lots of it. Now this may seem like a small thing but these doses of sugar and my system aren't a great match. It makes me crash to the point I have to sleep it off for a few hours OR it makes me really irritable and emotional. Neither of these are great scenarios for my family or those around me. I always ask myself AFTER I do these kinds of things, WHY?

It all comes down to falling into tempation...allowing myself to be enticed by statements such as "I deserve it"..."a little won't hurt" or "it will make me feel better." pg.118 of last week said "Satan will manipulate anything possible to provide false fulfillment for our souls." We must stay alert in every area and resolve to be faithful in all things both big and small.
Love,
Charryse

In session 7: The Ancient of Days, Beth looks at the dream in Daniel 7:1-14 that involves Daniel, the little horn, the Ancient of Days, and one like the son of man. The little horn spoke boastfully. The Ancient of Days entered as Chief Justice of the Universe and judged in favor of the saints before the beast was slain. In the one like a son of man, Daniel saw the coronation of the Messiah King receive His Father's gift of a universal kingdom. Click here to purchase and download this week's video.

pg. 147
"We who are Christians have God's all surpassing power in our jars of clay (2 Cor 4:7). Let's not wait until we are at the end of our strength to utilize it! Let's call on God to fill us with His all-surpassing power day in and day out. His "incomparably great power" is accessible daily from those who believe! This power is the same power He used to raise Jesus from the dead (Eph. 1:19-20). What more could we need?"

Wow~ What an impact this week had on my life! I find that as a mother of two that I constantly wait till I am at the end of my strength before I look to him. I am so excited to be doing this online study with you guys. I find after I do the week I go back through the study to see what stuck out most and I think I may even get more in this 15 minutes that I did when I read it before. I pray daily that I can look to him to fill me up as I go through this world here where I may encounter spiritual warfare. It is so important for me to keep my eyes on him in everything that I am doing and looking for him in the middle of "my busy life". Most times when I stop and look around he is somewhere different that I think that he should be and he wants me to "go and grow" and not "bend and blend". Thanks to you all for taking this journey and I pray that we can all let him fill us up in the start of the day so at the end we are not at the end of our strength.

Beth Moore Daniel Study - Week 6

In my house with a husband on the go and children who are always coming up with projects and new experiments, things easily disappear. A few years ago I bought a great set of "green" food storage containers. These containers have a special design and allow you to keep your fresh produce crisp and ripe for a longer period of time. The downfall, the color of the containers are so dull, I can't see what's inside. I have to open several of them in order to find what I need or I would simply forget and something would spoil.

So I am flipping through my daily assortment of fliers and coupons and stumble upon a new ad from Ikea. The Lord has recently opened my eyes to being an even better steward financially and intentionally looking for ways to save....but that's a whole different topic. Anyway, they have advertised a new set of containers for only $3.99. What a great deal right?! Best of all, they are clear and I can easily see what's inside.

In Daniel 5 we read about a banquet King Belshazzar gave. Of course he pulled out his best and served drinks in the gold and silver goblets taken from the temple in Jerusalem. An interesting connection was made to this event, and Beth reminded us that God wants us to be the kind of container fit to serve any guest that comes our way. Those of us who have received Christ Jesus as Savior are holy vessels.

As I continue to consider what it means to becme "Daniel-like" in my own Babylon-world, I believe that part of the process requires me to be transparent and fit for service. Who I am in the Lord should always be clear enough for others to see. When others see me, can they immediately see what's inside? And when they see inside, what do they see? Is my exterior shaded and difficult to see through? Are the treasures God has placed within me hidden from those that need to see them most?

What was your "ah ha" moment from last week?

Love, Charryse

In session 6: In the Lions' Den, Beth discusses that in an emergency we can either panic, become paralyzed, or pray. Prayer allows us to experience gloriously intense encounters with God, to emerge from terribly hurtful situations unhurt, and to see worldly observers become impressed with our God. From Imogene~
Week six was a great wrap up from the following five weeks. It allowed me to revisit some of the more meaning full points that the Lord used this study to point out in my life that I am living today. I felt that on page 125 there are three statements that really hit home for me. "God desires for us to be light-bearers in this dark culture and to be highly effective fruitbearers for the glory of His Name."

At the end of the week when she asked us to write a prayer this was it:

I pray that God will use me as a light-bearer in the world. I know that he has me right where he has me for a reason and there are so many relationships that I know God wants to me to address. It is so easy and comfortable to accept them they way they are. I know his heart for these people and I want that heart as well. "But we will never do it by accident. In fact, perhaps nothing in our lives will have to be more deliberate." A couple years back God told me this. I need bible studies and Christians to spur me on. I need to push myself for Christ. When I think this is too much, I need to think that I can do all things through him. If he puts a desire on your hearts he will give us the ability to fulfill the purpose through him and not ourselves. I strive to hear him in this world and everyday I am asking "God, where are you in this?" He will show me. Maybe not in my time but in his. "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men." This goes off my other favorite verse, "where your heart is, there also is your treasure." We need to always look to him and not others. Even though I stay at home God has a job for me. To raise my boys and be a supportive wife. He has also given me the desire to get involved at church instead of just going. I feel that if he is willing to pour so much into me it is my job to look for outlets where I can serve him by serving others. I love how much he loves me in my weakness.

Beth Moore Daniel Study - Week 8

Daniel ~ Week 5

Does anyone have any comments and/or questions in response to any of the material we have completed so far? Please do not hesitate to share comments and prayer requests throughout the week. We will all enjoy and benefit from hearing what you've been learning, and it's truly our privilege to lift one another up in prayer.

As you will recall, the theme of the video lesson 4 was succinctly stated in Daniel 4:37, "...and those who walk in pride He is able to put down". On Day One of our homework, Beth noted, "We can become as proud of our self-discipline, sacrificial giving, and self-denial as of our worldly successes and goods."

Offer an example of a sly way the enemy can tempt a "spiritual" believer to pride.

In session 5, Beth discusses that vesses can be consecrated or set aside as holy for God's use. We, too, are holy vessels in the house of the Lord (2 Timothy 2:20-21). Satan has no greater agenda than attempting to desecrate what God consecrates, but God does not overlook Satan's mistreatment of holy vessels. Thankfully, vessels that have been treated as unholy can be treated as holy again. Click here to purchase and download this week's video.

From Imogene~
pg. 98 "If you don't see yourself holy, are you able to see others in the body of Christ as holy? suitcase questions ~ Why do you more readily see them as holy?"
This really hit home for me because earlier in this study I talked about the power of prayer and having sisters for prayer partners to create the community he desires for us. If I look at the names listed I see some overlapping here. I see how these ladies reach out to me and I also see how God uses them to love me in times of need. Sometimes we do not see the good in ourselves as we see it in others. This worship song talks about this and I thought it was perfect for this week.

Worship Video ~

pg. 101
"If we cooperate, He'll turn every single one of our failures into something useful for his kingdom."
One of my mentors once spurred me with this and asked me if I was willing to self sacrifice for Him? Was I willing to discuss my failures for others to see the love of Christ in my life. This is a hard one, of course I want to say "YES", but at the same time this means dying to self for his glory daily. This is hard.

Please read Daniel 5:17 again. WOW! This is who I want to be. I desire to be the servant that does not want payment from this world but only my Savior. This can be an inspiration to us all through this journey of life. We can not serve two masters and where our treasures are, so is our heart!

Beth Moore Daniel Study - Week Four

"If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it and he will save us from it, he will rescue us from your hand, O king." Daniel 3:17

I am thankful that we serve a God who is willing to reach in and pull us out of the fire. As I look reflect back on Daniel chapter 3, I'm also thankful to have friends that are willing to go through the fire with me....who are walking with me as we desire a greater level of integrity and holiness.

With each passing day I am asking the Lord to show me where I have stepped into Babylon. Where I've gone off course and allowed my time, my thoughts, or my activities to be in the wrong direction. I quickly recognized an area where I had allowed myself to be enticed.

I can have such an appetite for "activity" for "helping others" for "taking control of my circumstances" that I find myself in a place where I'm out of God's will and using my gifts and talents in areas he never called me to be. They aren't necessarily bad places, but the wrong places. Too much of even a "good thing" can spread you thin and leave you spiritually bankrupt.

While I was working to become "rich" in certain areas, I neglected to realize how my pace, my captivity, was causing me to become "poor" in the areas that mattered most.

Are there activities or things in your life that you need to give up? Are you willing to be intentional and demonstrate resolve to make the changes God is asking of you? What part of "Babylon" are you still giving room in your life?

Love,

Charryse

In session 4: Farewell Lessons from Nebuchadnezzar, Beth shows us how the example of God’s disciplining King Nebuchadnezzar teaches us lessons. Two signs we are being corrupted by our "Babylons" are that we lose touch with the poor and that we lose touch with our own poverty of spirit. God knows where to draw the line: both His patience and His discipline set limits.

From Imogene ~
pg 72
"A wife who studies Scripture in-depth must be very careful that she does not develop a superiority complex over a husband who doesn't"
This was a topic for two weeks in our discussion class that we do on Wednesday mornings. We received affirmation on this topic through this statement from Beth Moore. We as moms and wives need to encourage our family towards Christ and not shove. It is important for us to help coordinate the events centered around Christ such as devotions but make sure not to take it a step farther to leadership in this area.

pg 74 Suitcase question
"By any chance, is your testimony one that risks you looking foolish? Mine is!"
We discussed how it is hard to share your testimony because you have to admit that you could not do it without God. This was my journey and sometimes Satan tries to play with this in our relationships. I feel that this person may never talk to me again if they knew who I use to be and what I use to do! But God has shown me over and over when I humble myself to show his love for me he will use that to show his love to others as well! I love him for that!!!!

Here is a song that should encourage us all the pray and share the gospel with people that are in our lives. They are there for a reason~

Beth Moore Daniel Study - Week Three

So are you hanging in there?! I am, but can I say that this past week has been a saving grace for me. It has been a rough week in some ways and I've had a lot throw at me, but my spirit man is strong and I am running to God and not self. Last week's "AH HA" moment for me is summed up by the caption from Day 3 ~ "The Answer to Urgent Prayer Calls for Urgent Praise". And let the church say AMEN! Praise was an overflowing source of strength and I choose to praise him no matter what. I am pulling out of Babylon little by little. My flesh doesn't like it, but greater is He that is in me than He that is in the world.

Keep going ladies! Don't give up! It's quality, not quantity that counts.
Love,
Charryse

Comment from Imogene
pg. 51
"What clue does 1 Peter 5:6 offer to our quest for significance?"
I feel that I need to cast all my cares and anxiety on him because he cares for me. Sometimes this is so hard to remember in the rat race of this life and all the anxiety that we have as moms, wives, caretakers, etc. There is a great song below to follow up on this verse.

Babble on in Babylon

Brimming closets, shoe racks bulge, one in every color, I’ll just indulge.
My wildest whim will oft be met, bigger, faster, give me, get.
Travel on in Babylon.

May I go first? Knew you’d not care, for my time’s precious. You’ve lots to spare.
I’ll slip in front and off I’ll go. See, I’m quite fast and well, you’re quite slow.
I and me fast friends, life-long.
Prattle on in Babylon.

Nip it here, just there a lift. I just turned forty, it was a gift.
The eyes, the lips, the bosoms do, sculptured, lasered, injected, too.
No wrinkles left, the tummy’s gone.
Journey on in Babylon.

Enough of me, how do you view me?
You get one, but give me three.
I couldn’t bare to just say no, it’s my desire and rightly so.
Add another and on and on.
Shuffle on in Babylon.

No end in sight that I can see, today is blocked by the mirror in front of me.
A wreck, a death, tsunami tide, it mildly stirs me, I must confide.
TV claims tens of thousands gone.
Oh well, let’s see what else is on.
Numb to the stunning sight of each new dawn,
Sinking fast in Babylon.

Like a lobster in a pot who begins to like the water hot,
I’ve been duped, been tricked, been had, convinced that truth was somehow bad.
Evil, coddled and cooed and purred, and beckoned me and called and lured.
Now in a place with the lights turned on, I’m racing home from Babylon.
I’m racing home from Babylon.

Beth Moore Daniel Study - Week Two

Wow, what a week. I'll admit, it was hard to get myself in a groove at first. This study really makes you dig deep and it's not something you can do in 5-10 minutes. That's one of things I like about it. My life is always on warp speed so this really forces me to slow down.

Have you ever met a person who was super disciplined. When I was a fifth grade teacher there was a young lady on our team who was one of the most disciplined people I ever met. She was a former dancer and you could tell. Her posture was incredible and she was so meticulous about what she ate...to the point where she ate the exact amount of the exact same thing every day for lunch. Now don't get me wrong, I personally think that's kind of boring and wouldn't do that myself. But what impressed me was her RESOLVE to do whatever it took to maintain the standard she had set for herself.

Last week's lesson really hit me to the core. The statement that I couldn't get out of my mind was " We have an enemy who wants to return us to the places God has called us to leave." That's where I find myself today. I made decisions and changed habits but somewhere along the way my Babylonian way of thinking, my mind wasn't completed transformed. So little by little I have walked my way back into a place I promised to never be again.

Daniel had incredible resolve, but what I am reminded of as well, is that he was willing to be
C-O-N-S-I-S-T-E-N-T every day. I really struggle with this. I will start down a path and do well for awhile but before I know it I almost back where I started.

So this week I'm asking myself, what daily decisions does God want me to make in order to renew my mind? my emotions? my spirit? And am I willing to make those decisions even when they don't receive the approval of those around me?

Session 2
In session 2: A Dream and a Kingdom, Beth discusses some of the parallels between ancient Babylon and the western culture that seeks to hold us captive.

From Imogene ~
pg 36 "Young Mom, God may have a senior adult for you at your church who could be one of the biggest blessings in life to you. Senior Adult, God might have a young single who could partner with you in prayer like no one else." Today in discussion, God really made it clear to look around and see who can be in our prayer networks. God designed the body to support and uplift one another. Let's let it! Reach out to a couple of your friends or family members and start a prayer list. We all need prayer!

Beth Moore Daniel Study - Week One

Week One Introduction

We are sooo excited to start this study this week. Everyone take a moment and comment about yourself. List the basics and maybe one fun fact so we can all get to know each other better. Wednesday of each week Wednesday by 6:00pm if you could have all your week work done and also have watched the video, the discussions can begin. Imogene and I will be listing our favorite suitcase question, comment, or lion question for the week. We would love for everyone to comment on one of these or even something else that meant alot to you that week. At the end of each week we will have a worship video that you can watch anytime. This will be a great Christian song that we felt followed the topic. We are so excited to see the Lord reaching all of us right in our homes and we know that we are all in for some blessings!

Video 1
Daniel: Lives of Integrity, Words of Prophecy - Video Session 1 is one of twelve individual and downloadable sessions from the women's Bible study by Beth Moore. In session 1: Choices to Make, Beth discusses how surrounded by our own Babylon, modern believers face a choice. Will we influence or be influenced by it? Nothing is more dangerous than friendly captivity; it never remains friendly but turns on us every time. As Daniel drew the line and resolved not to partake of the king's rich foods, we must resolve to set our hearts on heavenly things lest we lose both integrity and identity. Be sure to watch the video before you begin your daily study.

Week One Suitcase Question from Imogene ~

I loved this week. I felt that is served as a great introduction to this book in the bible. Page 23 in the workbook is where this question can be found.
"Beloved, has the world ever tried to give you a bad name or a bad identity?"
My answer to this was yes. I come from a divorced family and I feel that the world viewed me as a "left one". Where is God identity was "one who needs me". After research and reading I found that any child who comes from a divorce has a moment of isolation at a very young age. Mine was twelve. I felt different. I have found that this feeling never went away until I was saved. It was a moment that I realized that this world is not going to make me happy, but God is. It took me a long journey to come to this moment, almost eight years.
"Are you still falling for it? If so how?" I feel that even though I know that people are going to disappoint me I still look for acceptance from others instead of my Savior. At these moments God whispers, "Do you see me?" That is why I ask myself who am I serving in this relationship? Myself or My Savior?
pg 25 "Life becomes so much simpler when there aren't so many costume changes."
Wow ~ This really hit home for me. There are so many friends and situations that I find my self conforming to instead of transforming from. I pray daily that I will look for God in this world and every situation that he has me in daily. I see my sinful nature and I pray that every day he will show me how to transform in his power to his will.

Books may be purchased through Women's Ministry @ Central Church ($16) or Amazon.com($21)

If your schedule and/or circumstances prevent you from being able to physically attend a group Bible study, this Beth Moore Online Bible Study IS JUST FOR YOU.

We live in a day and age where technology is every where we turn and right at our fingertips. I can't think of a better way to put it to good use then as a tool to guide us through the word of God. I believe that God brought each one of us to this study purposely. It is no accident that you are here, that I am here. I know that personally, as a working mother, I have longed for a way to get connected to other moms on a deeper level. Meeting for coffee here and there is awesome, but I want to continue to grow into the image of Christ I am called to be both in and out of my home. There's so much yet to learn!

Studying the Bible in an online setting will be no easy feat. However, everything I really value has come with some kind of cost and this is definitely worth the price. For the same $4-5 I would take to by myself a drink from Starbucks or purchase something silly because it's on sale, I can now purchase material that will feed my spirit. We have our work cut out for us (smile). We cannot see each other face to face, so we lose some sense of accountability. We also lose the ability to encourage one another verbally. There is something about the spoken voice of a friend that is , at times, lost through the written word. But each of these things can be overcome! It is my prayer that God would use even these drawbacks for our good (Romans 8:28). For instance, maybe we will allow ourselves to be more vulnerable to a group that cannot see our eyes fill with tears as we share our hearts. Perhaps we will feel more secure typing our thoughts instead of speaking them out in a large group. I believe God can do AMAZING things in all circumstances, including this one.

The Lord is going to meet us through this computer and through each other!

Welcome to the journey!

Introduction to Radical Book Review

Radical | A book by David Platt

When God sat me down on the beach and had a leader from Campus Crusade for Christ tell me how much he loved me and that he wanted to take the burdens of my life, was my first RADICAL moment in this journey of my salvation. I was on fire! I went back to school did the best I could to separate myself from my sinful activities and could not stop talking about the Lord. I went on missions trips, witnessed everywhere I went, and sat at the feet of the Lord. I ask myself, "What happened over the past 14 years?" The answer is MYSELF.

Blogging these online studies has been such a blessing to my life. I have highlighted certain passages from the book and they will be in quotations. I have paired each chapter with a worship song that I felt applied to this book. At the end of each chapter blog post you will find a comment question or verse that I have pulled from the books website. All of these resources can be found on the internet. There is a community of over 8,000 members on the facebook page that are taking this journey. We are looking for you all to comment on each chapter and let us all know how the Lord is speaking to you. This is the only way that this online community of believers can encourage each other through this site and help us all apply to our daily lives. I pray that you enjoy this book as much as I have!

Serving Him,
Imogene

Radical Chapter One

"I could not help but think that somewhere along the way we had missed what is radical about our faith and replaced it with comfortable. We were settling for a Christianity that revolves around catering to ourselves when the central message of Christianity is actually about abandoning ourselves."

As a mom of two small boys this really hits home. I find myself looking to God to help me with little daily issues that arise. I need to take him at his word and know that he has all this in his plan. That his plan for me is far greater than what I am living now in my faith. It is time for me to take the next step right where he has me.

"We are giving into a dangerous temptation to take the Jesus of the Bible and twist him into a version of Jesus we are comfortable with."

I have found that I am very comfortable where he has me. I have a wonderful family and family of faith. I now see that he has this for me as a backbone for support and it is time to take the next step. Those who receive much, much is expected.

"And the danger now is that when we gather in our church buildings to sing and lift up our hands in worship, we may not actually be worshiping the Jesus of the Bible. Instead we may be worshiping ourselves."

When we are filled with the spirit through worship, what are we doing next. We are filled with the Holy Spirit and totally focused on him in worship. I love going to church and when the doors are open I am there. But what should I be doing outside the doors is my next question to myself.

From Resource Link on Website ~
“In the same way, any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple.” With these words, Jesus turned away large crowds who were following Him. With grace and authority, He beckoned potential followers to consider the demands of discipleship. For most, the price was too high and the cost was too great. In the 2000 years since Jesus spoke these words, it begs the question: Do we in contemporary Christianity realize the high price of following Jesus? Do we understand the great cost for all who call themselves followers of Christ? Take a closer look at the words of Jesus that require us to consider the implications of the Gospel for every facet of our lives."

Radical Chapter Two

"God has to open our eyes, set us free, overcome our evil, and appease his wrath. He has to come to us. Now we are getting to the beauty of the gospel."

Message from resource link on website ~
What is the Gospel? Answering this one question is indispensible to knowing what it means to be a follower of Christ. The Gospel has ramifications for each of our lives for all eternity, yet many professing Christians have less and less of a grasp on what the Gospel really is. Based on the words of Christ, could it be possible that scores of people involved in church are not actually followers of Christ? How do we know when we have truly trusted in the Gospel for salvation, and how do we avoid deceiving ourselves when it comes to life’s most important
question?"

I feel that I am very comfortable in the body right where he has me. I trust that he will show me the way of where he wants me to go next in this journey. My real question to myself is if I am going to trust him in his plan for me. It is hard being in this world to see that there is a much bigger picture than my daily activities. I need to trust him in these small things so my focus can be on his bigger mission for me.

Jeremiah 12:5 NIV "If you have raced with men on foot and they have worn you out, how can you compete with horses"

I love this verse with this chapter personally because he is telling me that he designed me to race with horses and trust him with the details and he will help up reach a higher ground that he has designed for us all.

Radical Chapter Three

"So the challenge for us is to live in such a way that we are radically dependent on and desperate for the power that only God can provide."

"While the American dream is to make much of us, the goal of the gospel is to make much of God."

"This is how God works. He puts his people in the positions where they are desperate for his power, and then he shows his provision in the ways that display his greatness."

I have to stop and look for him in all that I am doing and realize that he has the divine purpose. It is in times of weakness that I see him the most in my life. My struggles have come because he draws me closer to him. When I am comfortable, why am I not looking for him in every step I am taking and pushing myself to serve him and not myself and my family.

"We can so easily deceive ourselves, mistaking the presence of physical bodies in a crowd for the existence of spiritual life in a community."

Comment Question from resource section on website ~
Christ did not command us to “do” a list of things for Him or for God. Rather, He told us simply to “abide in Him,” which means to remain in Christ. What does that look like in the life of a Christ-follower?

Radical Chapter Four

"Meanwhile, Jesus commands us to go. He has created each of us to take the gospel to the ends of the earth, and I propose that anything less than radical devotion to this purpose is unbiblical Christianity."

While I am a stay at home mom of two, I have to look at this plan as a long term one. I know that I will go on a mission trip away from home when my boys are older. But this is where we have to stop and trust. We need to see that the ends of the earth could be right across the street or at the grocery store I go to weekly. There is no excuse not to share his love with others. Is there something small I can do that he can use greatly? Can I get to know the check out ladies at the grocery store and get to know them all by name? Can I get to know the ladies that work at the gym? Can I start a conversation on the treadmill? If I worked could I start sharing his love in the workplace? He wants to use us RIGHT NOW!

"When I consider the house that I will live in, the car that I will drive, the clothes according to what is best for me. This is the version of Christianity that largely prevails in our culture."

"We are not the end of the gospel, God is."

"Were we created for something much greater than this?"

"..only to realize that success in the kingdom of God involves moving down, not up"

"What are you going to do with what I have given you? How are you going to use your influence, your leadership, and your resources in the world around you."

Resource Comment Question~
"A personal commitment to the local body of believers, the church, is consistently revealed throughout the New Testament. Defining the Church as the people for whom Christ died and the people that are created by the salvation which Christ brings"

Radical Chapter Five

"Jesus reminds me that disciples are not mass-produced. Disciples of Jesus-genuine, committed, self-sacrificing followers of Christ-are not made overnight."

"This is foundational in making disciples, and we will multiply the gospel only when we allow others to get close enough to us to see Christ in action."

Last fall when I was with my mentor group, I confessed that I did tend to build up walls in my life. I did this through activities in my life. I was so busy really doing nothing. So I prayed for God to take these things away and prayed for ways to glorify him in all I do. The result was allowing others to get closer to me one on one and help me grow to see what the Lord is doing compared to what I was doing!

Resource Comment
Learn what "disciple-making" means as Matthew 4:13 becomes the launching point. Jesus taught the disciples to share the Word, show the Word, teach the Word and serve the World. Two simple words, but a lifetime of modeling the Person of Christ.

Radical Chapter Six

"Do not be afraid little flock for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom" 24

"But then I realize that there is never going to come a day when I stand before God and he looks at me and says, "I wish you would have kept more for yourself." I'm confident that God will take care of me."

"He is saying that wealth can be a dangerous obstacle."

"to do good, to be rich in deeds, and to be generous and willing to share."

God knows our heart and he will provide for his plan in our lives.

"I don't want to be the rich young man. And I do not want to ignore the fact that the lure toward becoming him is always stronger than I would like to admit."

When growing up I had nothing, so once I graduated from college it was my goal to never have this financial burden again. I put everything I had into a career and now look at me as a stay at home mom! Making nothing. It was a hard transition from looking to money for my praise to looking to him. This journey was one that brought me to my knees in the middle of the night. Brought me closer to him and my husband than I ever thought possible. I look at pictures of me and my sister when we had nothing and I see more happiness there than in all my years of financially having everything.

"I do not want to miss eternal treasure because I settle for earthly trinkets. "Where your treasure is," Jesus says, "there your heart will be also."

I struggle with this everyday for I yearn for acceptance from my friends and family. I want to change this to make Christ the focus of my acceptance and not this world and other people.

Comment Verse
John 14
Jesus Comforts His Disciples
1 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God[a]; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going.”
Jesus the Way to the Father
5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”

6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Radical Chapter Seven

"they live their Christianity in silence, as if people around them in the world will indeed be okay in the end without Christ."

This is probably how I would view myself at this stage of my life. I am ready to jump back in and remember how on fire I was when I was a new believer. When I was on trips with Campus Crusade we would have witness days and I would love to commit one day a month to get together with some friends and do this here right in Charlotte. I will look into ministries at my church as well to see if there is somewhere I can go with my family of faith.

Truth 1: All People Have Knowledge of God
Truth 2: All People Reject God
Truth 3: All People Are Guilty Before God
Truth 4: All People Are Condemned For Rejecting God
Truth 5: God Has Made A Way of Salvation For The Lost
Truth 6: People Cannot Come To God Apart From Faith In Christ
Truth 7: Christ Commands The Church To Make The Gospel Known To All Peoples

Comment Question
"Will we risk everything- our comfort, our possessions, our safety, our security, our very lives-to make the gospel known among unreached peoples? Such rising up and risk taking are unaviodable, urgent results of a life that is radically abandoned to Jesus."

Radical Chapter Eight

"But in the end, Jesus said, following him leads to radical reward that this world can never offer. This begs a question from each of us: do we believe the reward is found in Jesus is worth the risk of following him?"

"The language of Matthew 10 envisions Jesus as a military commander sending soldiers out on a mission. He summoned his disciples, and then he sent them out. In light of the needs before them and the danger around them, the disciples knew they were entering into a battle."

"Three times he told them, "Do not be afraid." 11

"Too long we have been waiting for one another to begin!"
"And when we come to this position the battle is already won, and the end of the glorious campaign is in sight. We will have the real Holiness of God, not the sickly stuff of talk and dainty words and pretty thoughts: we will have a Masculine Holiness, one of daring faith and works for Jesus Christ."

I want to push myself to do things that I would not normally do so I can step out in faith and see what God has for me. I have a girlfriend that I call each time the Lord gives me an idea of how to increase the kingdom. This way there is someone there to hold me accountable to not allow the business of my life to dim this light that I am looking at.

Radical Chapter Nine

The Experiment
Step One ~ Pray for the world
"The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few." 1
"Instead his concern was that his followers would not get lost."

This is why it is so important to reach out to another sister or brother in Christ to make sure that you stay strong for this journey that you are going to soon begin.

Step Two ~ Read the entire Word

Find a resource to help you get through this. It always helps to do this with someone else to you can have community with another believer when you see the light in His Word.

Step Three ~ Sacrifice your money for a specific purpose

Find an organization that the Lord has led you too. I am a stay at home mom on one income and I have had two events in my home for organizations that were a success.
1 - Reached out to other moms that had crafts to sell and did a silent auction. They donated the items and got free advertisement while all proceeds went to the cause. You can do this online or at a venue.
2 - I babysat during the week for one whole week at my house. I did this during the day for other moms to run errands or have lunch dates with husbands. They donated the money online after I sat. Any amount was fine. I almost raised $300 from just staying in my house serving others and getting to know my kids friends. I was rewarded way more than anyone after this step of faith!

Step Four ~ Spend your time in another context

Reach out! Step out! No matter how small this is you will see God work in your life more than you will know. If you currently are a member of a church, see if they have any outreach programs. Of course start praying today for what trip he has for you!

Step Five ~ Commit your life to multiplying community
"So how will you go?"

Are there people in your life that you have close to you that do not believe. Even if you have shared the gospel with them a million times, it does not hurt to do it once more. When things happen in people's lives such as births, deaths, health issues, etc, make sure to take the time to go and visit them! This is a hard one with the business of life, but I promise that you will see God reach out to others by just making the commitment to share his word with them!

"You will know the incomparable thrill of being a part of what God is up to where you live and around the world."

"when God chose to bring salvation to you and me, he did not send gold or silver, cash of check. He sent himself - The Son."

"You have a choice. You can cling to short-term treasures that you cannot keep, or you can live for long term treasures that you can not loose."
